Medications before surgery: Depakote, effexor, lasix, zocor, asprin and
other cardiovascular medications.
Medications after surgery: Blood thinners, pain medications, psychotropic meds.
Type of valve I have: Porcine Tissue
Type of valve I had: Original Mitral
Hospital where my surgery was done: Saint Josephs Mercy Hospital of Ann
Arbor
My experience there: very pleasant with excellent care by my
cardiovascular staff of doctors and surgeons. In addition great care by
my mental health team.
My first few days home: After spending 19 days in the hospital I went to a
nursing home in northern Washtenaw county for recovery for about a month.
My recovery since then: It has been three years since my valve replacement
surgery. My new valve has not really been given me any problems and is
functioning very well.
